Name: Nicola Brigitte da Silva

Ward: Ward 24, Ekurhuleni

My name is Nicola Brigitte da Silva, and I am the Democratic Alliance Ward 88 Candidate in Ekurhuleni.

I am standing as a Ward Councillor because I want to set an example of how the principles of freedom, fairness, opportunity, and diversity can apply at a local level, by providing leadership in the ward that I serve, as well as at committee and council level where my considerable experience in Corporate and Shared Services and Ethics can make a meaningful difference.

Ward 24 has serious issues with electricity and water supply, and collapsing roads partially caused by the amount of housing and business development in the area, without equitable infrastructure upgrades. I will be focusing on these key issues as well as stormwater drains maintenance. I would like to see positive economic growth in all areas of the ward, together with responsible infrastructure upgrading and maintenance.

I plan to actively participate in the CPF and continuously engage with the many retirement homes in the community. I will also maintain a presence on social media groups for the various communities within the ward where I will keep the community updated with developments in their area and in Council.

On a people level I have great desire to help people, and this stands me well to provide my constituents with a place to which they can turn. Additionally, my skills as a qualified and registered Debt Counsellor, with a sound knowledge of credit and the relevant laws and my membership of the International Ethics and Compliance Association place me in an excellent position to make a significant contribution — ensuring that the Policies of Council are properly formulated and executed, while ensuring that the delivery of services are in line with the DA’s vision for freedom, fairness, opportunity, and diversity.
