As Covid-19 continues to plague our country and affect our communities, I urge everyone to register for the Covid-19 vaccination in an effort to keep safe and fight this pandemic.
The national government recently announced that registration is now open for everybody 50 years and older. To register, please go to: https://vaccine.enroll.health.gov.za/#/ or you can also register using USSD, dial *1234*832*IDnumber# (if you do not have an ID number, just dial *1234*832# ). Alternatively, you can register using Whatsapp, by sending the word REGISTER to 0600 012 3456.
Having had my first vaccination jab at the weekend, I am proud that I have begun my journey towards being vaccinated against this deadly virus and I encourage everyone over the age of 50 to use this opportunity to protect themselves and get vaccinated.
The registration process is quick and easy and, once registered, you will receive an SMS when it is your turn, with a date, time and venue. With the newly launched mobile vaccinate units stationed at various sites across Gauteng, people eligible can now be vaccinated near their homes and places of work. Walk-ins who qualify will also be assisted.
Studies have identified that being vaccinated against Covid-19 provides a strong boost in protection against the virus. Covid-19 vaccines are effective and, once you are fully vaccinated, you will be able to resume many activities we all loved and enjoyed before this deadly pandemic.
While I encourage everyone to register for the vaccination, as the Democratic Alliance (DA), we call on the failing ANC government to ramp up the vaccination programme as many South Africans of all ages want to be vaccinated. More can be done and should be done.
