The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Ekurhuleni has been fighting for service delivery in Germiston and pressuring the failing ANC and their *coalition partners to act swiftly and rectify the complete collapse of service delivery.

The DA ward and PR councillors in Germiston have been working tirelessly with frustrated residents over the ongoing power outages affecting large areas of Germiston, while raw sewerage flows down the street and the non-collection of refuse has become the norm.

The most basic of services aren’t being delivered, which residents pay for, and the ANC-led City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) is not delivering.

As the DA, we have motioned council to immediately act to rectify the electricity crisis gripping Germiston. Businesses in Wadeville have been without power for weeks and are forced to close their doors and residents spend weeks in darkness. However, the ANC and its coalition partners used their majority to deny our motion.

The ongoing service delivery crisis is of serious concern and the ANC and its coalition partners are failing to deliver on their constitutional mandate.

DA councillors have been trying to work closely with City officials to ensure service delivery issues are resolved quickly. However, The ANC-appointed Mayor, Cllr Mzwandile Masina, has issued a memorandum to Heads of Department (HOD) instructing them to not engage with opposition councillors. Furthermore, Cllr Masina refuses to reply to service delivery messages from DA councillors This is making the working environment hostile.

Despite these challenges, we are committed to holding the failing ANC and its coalition partners to account for the collapse of services. The complete lack of leadership and accountability is leaving residents frustrated and calling for change.

We will continue to work closely with our communities to ensure change and always strive to assist and engage with residents.
