Korsmans Drive in Benoni has become a real headache for residents, as pooling water, due to poor drainage, has become more than just an inconvenience.
The lack of maintenance to ageing storm water infrastructure means that water following heavy rains remains pooled on residents driveways meaning some cannot even manage to take their wheelie bins out or reverse out their driveways.
The storm water drain and the culvert servicing the road remains blocked causing excess water to pool for sometimes days on end.
This is not a new problem to residents, as numerous complaints have been lodged to the Department of Roads and Storm Water with no response.
Korsmans Conservancy is a popular place for residents and visitors to take a walk, cycle, bird watch and admire the beautiful scenery. The pooling water, however, has made such activities impossible.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Ekurhuleni has submitted numerous complaints to both the Department of Water and Sanitation, as well as the Department of Roads and Storm Water. These complaints, however, have to-date been met with silence.
The DA considers this lack of service delivery that has come to define the ANC Coalition-led Metro, as unacceptable. The DA will continue to hold both Departments to account in ensuring that the storm water infrastructure is adequately and timeously repaired.
