The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Ekurhuleni would like to congratulate Councillor Raymond Dhlamini on being elected the Speaker of Council in the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE).

We, as the DA, claimed our first victory in our effort to win the CoE when Cllr. Dhlamini got 116 votes, while the ANC nominee received 104.

Dhlamini has served as a councillor in Ekurhuleni since 2016. During the previous term, Cllr. Dhlamini held the position of Deputy Chairperson in the DA Ekurhuleni Caucus, and he was recently elected as the Chairperson of the Caucus in this new term.

The Speaker’s role is to maintain order at meetings and ensure that Council Meetings are conducted according to the rules of order and in compliance with the Council’s Code of Conduct.

Cllr. Dhlamini brings a wealth of knowledge and strategic understanding which will bolster the City and assist in steering Council in the right direction.

Cllr. Dhlamini is passionate about the communities of Ekurhuleni and is ready to serve all residents of the CoE. “The residents of Ekurhuleni need renewed hope and a capable government that gets the basics right and gets things done”, said Dhlamini.

As the DA, we will not waiver on our principles and values. The residents of Ekurhuleni deserve a well-run government that delivers basic services and provides a healthy and safe environment. A DA-run Ekurhuleni will get the basics right by ensuring effective and responsive service delivery.

Together, we will strive for clean governance, the very foundation of the values of the Democratic Alliance.
