Type: Media Statement
The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Ekurhuleni has submitted our people-driven valuation roll petition at the recent Hybrid Council sitting.
Roughly 11 000 members of the public, across the ANC-led City of Ekurhuleni, made their voices heard by signing the DA petition, which sought to petition the City Manager of Ekurhuleni to request the MEC responsible for Local Government in Gauteng to extend the current valuation roll by 12 (twelve months) to 30 June 2022.
With the property Valuation Roll deadline of 18 June 2021 rapidly approaching, we believe it is time for the City to act in the interest of our residents and businesses and postpone the highly flawed valuation roll process.
In some cases residents have seen their property value more than double. This will mean residents will be charged on their new, higher property valuations from 1 July 2021, resulting in a significant rates increase.
Our petition submission highlights our support to residents across Ekurhuleni and we advise everyone to check their newly proposed property valuation.
We remind residents that signing our DA petition is not an officially lodged objection against the valuation roll, but rather a request to extend the current valuation roll until 30 June 2022, to allow the failing ANC and its coalition partners’ time to re-evaluate and correct the valuation roll.
We urgently encourage all residents to check the Valuation roll here: http://valuations.ekurhuleni.gov.za:8082/ and officially lodge their objections against a relevant property.
The objection forms are available here: https://www.ekurhuleni.gov.za/residents/forms/valuation-objection-forms.html
As the DA, we will continue to challenge the flawed process used by the ANC and its coalition administration. The entire property valuation roll process should be condemned in the strongest terms as it has been flawed from the onset.
We will continue to stand with communities who are growing increasing frustrated at the poor levels of governance from the ANC and its coalition partners. We will continue to fight for your constitutional rights as residents of Ekurhuleni.
